Okay... So we are "Incorporated" now.
What exactly does that mean for everyone?
Well mission wise, it means absolutely nothing. We will still continue to run our missions the exact same way they have always been run. There will be no changes in the way we communicate, plan or execute Operational Missions. You can understand the concept if you envision that it is two different organizations operating for the same goals.
The Operations arm is headed by the Maryland State Captain. Although other States have invested their State Captain with a position on their State Board, we have done the opposite. The State Captain in Maryland is not automatically a member of the Board (and in this case refused to serve). We did this intentionally so there is no confusion about where the Operational Missions are run from. As time goes on we hope to have a Board in place with only token representation from the Ride Captain corps. There are many brilliant people in our area with vast experience on Non-Profit Boards and we hope to tap some of them to help guide us in our organizational and fundraising efforts.
The Maryland Patriot Guard, Inc., is the support and fundraising arm. It will be run by an independent Board of Directors. The Board will be autonomous and able to help out wherever they see a need. The role and responsibilities will will evolve over time as they get input and requests from the Riders. Besides funding HOTH efforts, they will be able to do so much more. They will be able to organize and spearhead efforts to take on anything that is outside of running a mission. License plates, State Patches, State Coin, 1st Mission pin, Teddy Bears for children of the fallen, Vests for the wounded at WR, Special plaques, Flags & Poles for the Flag Lines and that's just a few ideas! We are sure that many Riders have their own ideas and they don't know where to send them!
