Although it’s been a while since we’ve given any HOTH updates, we’ve been busy with our Wounded Warriors at Walter Reed the past few months.

A soldier, who we met at Walter Reed, returned to the area after his discharge from the Army and stayed with us for several months this winter.

We’ve taken several guys out for steamed crabs, to breakfast and enjoyed their company at cookouts.  More bicycles have been given out thanks again to the Red Men Riders and we’ve presented more motorcycle vests and eagle head canes.

The fundraiser in June was a huge success.  Two Wounded Warriors attended and enjoyed the food, camaraderie and just getting away for a few hours.  We even met several other soldiers who work at Walter Reed that came out to support the event.

Our 4th annual bbq was held June 26 at Walter Reed.  There was a great turnout, sunny weather, good food and lots to do.  One soldier told me just recently that he thought it was the best event there…he said there was so much going on with the bike show, band, volunteers to talk to and tattoo contest….there was plenty to see and do.

Over July 4th weekend we took a Wounded Warrior to our favorite bed and breakfast in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.  Every time we’d visit, the owners would tell us to bring a soldier down and his weekend would be on them.  Well we were finally able to arrange it!!  Best of all, the soldier was from the same state as them!  They compared stories of towns, old time roller coasters, local characters and restaurants.  We sat by the creek, took a nature walk and just all around relaxed.  It was a much needed get away from the routine and bustling schedule at Walter Reed.  Look up Osceola Mill in Steele’s Tavern, VA, if you’re ever down that way.  If nothing else, just stop in and say “thanks”.

We hope to get a few guys/girls out to our next fundraiser July 25.  If we line some up to come, we might need help with transportation.
